Course information

The girls will learn a variety of things depending on their age.

The junior course (Year 4 & 5) is taught over 4-5 hours and covers identifying safe and unsafe behaviour from people we know, safety around strangers, the girls looking after themselves and their friends, identifying their safe and trusted adults and being confident to tell if they are concerned or worried. There is also a small physical component. Much of the course is taught through games and stories. All resources used are age appropriate as are the physical techniques and discussions undertaken in the courses.

The older girls (Ruru Girls) will learn ways of dealing with unsafe situations including:

How to deal with being followed, obscene phone calls or texts and acquaintance and stranger attack, Sexual harassment and bullying. Getting out of grabs and holds How to think their way out of threatening situations What the law says about abuse and the importance of telling a safe adult their concerns.

Our Women’s Self Defence website is for more information.

The survey has now closed…

Mon Aug 30 01:01pm

Our Level 3 Survey has now closed, we appreciate the prompt response which has helped us with our preparation. Due to our bubble numbers being at a maximum for what we can safely manage, we can not take anymore, (Level 4) essential worker children at Level 3. The directives from the Ministry of Education are a lot stricter this time around combined with the fact that we only have a small percentage of staff members who are able to be onsite to assist with bubble teaching, due to a range of factors. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Please get in touch with me if you need further clarification.

Stay safe, hopefully, we can be back at Level 2 soon.

Tue Aug 17 10:28pm

Due to the fact we have been here before, we are well placed to support and adapt to this challenge.  Last time around I was really proud of how our staff, students and families worked together the best we could, given the trying circumstances.

School is closed for the remainder of the week. The immediate priority is for you to focus on the needs and wellbeing of your family. Online learning will be available from tomorrow lunchtime, this will vary across the school teams according to need and level.

We will continue to communicate with you over the coming days (via our school app, website, facebook and email) as further information comes to hand.

Thanks in advance for your support and understanding as we face this challenge again.

On behalf of our entire staff and board, please keep safe and take care.
