Principal’s Welcome
Kia ora tatou te whanau,
Welcome to Stanley Avenue School.
It is an absolute honor to be the Principal of Stanley Avenue School. We are a values-based school that encourages our learners to ‘strive to succeed- whaia kia u’ in all areas. We are fortunate to have such dedicated, passionate and motivated staff members that are committed to supporting students to reach their potential in a range of areas across the curriculum.
We are proud of our Vision Statement that provides direction and underpins all decision-making.
S- Supportive Community of Learners
A- Aspiring to be our best
S- Self-motivated achievers
So… you may ask what the Vision actually means?
Here is a brief overview.
Supportive Community of Learners: identifies the range of supportive communities within our context from classroom, syndicate, and school communities, to our Te Aroha (Kāhui Ako-Community of Learning.) These communities are all designed to support the Stanley Avenue learner.
Aspiring to be our best: focuses on high expectations and consistently putting in our best effort in all areas of school life.
Self–motivated achievers: encourages students to take increased responsibility for their learning, displaying initiative and identifying their learning pathways. This links in with our Professional Development based on ‘Learner Agency’ – focusing on learners taking charge of their learning.
At Stanley Avenue School we offer a wide range of opportunities to help students realize their potential. Some examples include Chess Club, Kapa Haka, Stanley Avenue TV, Stanley Avenue Radio, plus a wide range of sporting opportunities. Whilst core curriculum areas are our major focus, we value the importance of individuals being given the opportunities to explore their passions and talents.
Professional Development opportunities focusing on Restorative Practice and Learner Agency will continue to empower our learners’ capability and capacity in 2020 and beyond.
If you would like to find out more about our fantastic school, check out our website, class blogs, or feel free to come and visit!
Kind regards
John Byers (Principal)
